Modifiers you can't live without

As a last minute review of the list of critical modifiers I will be including in the Beginner-Intermediate book coming out at the end of the year, I was hoping to get some input on what others consider modifiers they can't live without. Basically, besides those modifiers listed below which will already be included, what are a few modifiers that you don't see that you wouldn't want to live without. Your input is greatly appreciated. BTW, Unwrap can't be one of them because that's going in the Intermediate-Advanced book.

Edit Mesh, Edit Poly, Edit Spline, Sweep, UVW Map, Optimize, Extrude, Displace, FFD, Subdivide, XForm, Noise, Slice, Lathe, Wave, TurboSmooth

Turn to poly is one ive been introduced to. Use it after a boolean operation and it sorts out most of the messed up geometry. Saves time having to go in and weld up stray vertex's.

did that make itself a section in the book about staying away from boolean??

or on the other hand if you have to use booleans, to use the power boolean modifier since it is a bit more tuned to handling geometry.

I think you should have a chapter on which modifiers make good DJ names. A colleague pointed this out to me. Lots of modifiers make good DJ names:

DJ Spline

DJ TurboSmooth

DJ Mesh

DJ Noise

DJ Optimize

DJ XForm

DJ Slice

etc etc.....

Hi Brian,

I would say the Bevel Profile is a crucial one you are missing in the list. Also I would replace optimize with MultiRes. I think its much cleaner.

BTW if you are introducing edit poly etc. If you don't already have it in mind I would start the chapter with an explanation of the keyboard shortcut override or you will drive your readers crazy.

Those are some great suggestions. I hadn't ever compared MultiRes next to Optimize but i just did and from what i see

it blows it away. Anyone else think differently?

I like the UVW mapping modifier. It really seems to help with mapping.

Hmmm. UVW mapping? Do you have a tutorial on that?

I like the Multires modifier better than optimize, only because it seems a little more intuitive. Also, I prefer the sweep modifier to bevel profile. More control.
