THEPRAYINGMANTIS
Hi all, Will a vray proxy help me conserve memory when rendering a still? The scene consists of millions of faces because I'm using highly detail corinthian columns and when I try to render even at low resolution it gives me a (unhandle memory heap error message). Basically it runs out of memory. I even installed more RAM and change the virtual memory settings to the max and it still crashes. I need help please!!!! ShaunDon
Try switching to dynamic memory in the V-Ray system settings. Set the ram amount about 500 mb less than your total system ram. It'll slow down your render, but prevent V-Ray from overrunning your ram as it sounds like it's doing now. Good luck, Shaun
wodewil
Hej Fabio Sometimes I have the same massage. I've learned to dont use maps with larger resolution then image; I usually dont use V'ray proxy because IMO: it helps only in preview and when it is starting to rendering it is prepairing once again! And when I set up everything to start rendering I use to switch every viewport to wire, close material manager and save and reload scene oe even restart Your system load scene and dont do nothing just render. You could see diferences in memory -windows manager. Aha! And I dont use displacement IMO mesches are better for memory and for light cache (if You use V-ray) That is all I do... there may be other better way but if you have to work with many aplications on the same time (deadline for egsamle ) this is my favourite way to save RAM. I hope I'dont mess smth,, again See You
bricklyne
I would most certainly advise you to covert those Columns into proxies and use them (with instancing Proxies have saved my hide on very very many occasions when I've had to render poly-heavy scenes with loads of geometry like 3D plants or highly detailed repetitive furniture units or every detailed buildings. Scenes that would otherwise never render o any other renderer or situation. I think that's one of the best features of Vray bar none proxies in conjunction with instancing. I would also advise you to use geometry in place of any features that might have opacity maps or even displacement in some cases. Vray hates opacity ( or alpha) maps and more readily and easily renders heavier geometry scenes ( if you use proxies of course) over the usual tricks like opacity maps and displacement; more so opacity maps. mfured20
i had a job recently where i had to use a ton of columns; the corinthian ones especially were very high poly, and the scene was a beast to work with and render. using vray proxies really helped the workability of scene, i wouldnt have been able to get the same detail using anything else. good luck!
