tayrona
Hi all, I am an autocad modeler, but I am getting in to max modeling slowly.... now I have a task that could be easyly solve with a boundary and an extrusion in autocad, but I would like to do it in max, the drawing explains what I want...... I would like to get a solid with the shape of the current empty space....... hope you to understand... Thanks in advance...
ITryMyBest
if you have already drawn the shape as a spline object (they work better in max than in cad) then you can apply an extrude modifier to the closed spline.
RTurner
make sure the poly is closed or it will need the vertices welded to cap the ends.
tayrona
I have not drawn the shape........ this is my question....... is there some way to do it without making the shape, (in autocad, with a simple click inside the empty area, the program detect the borders and draw the shape)..... RTurner
I dont believe so, I rarely use AutoCad, except for cases like this...
IHAB
this can be done using photoshop pathes straight in one step
tayrona
The shape is done! with autocad, obviously, but... I will be waiting for new opinions, there must be a way
BrianKitts
If it's a closed spline imported from autocad, in your modify panel.... select it by spline. click on your actual shape then in the "outline" modifier... type in your width. That will give your solid shape, then use a standard extrude modifier to give it depth..... see attached...
tayrona
thanks brian! although we are still depending on Autocad... in your opinion, which program is best for architectural modeling, autocad, max or combination.... I have discovered that boolean operations in autocad damage some solids when imported to max... but after being an expert in cad modeling is very hard for me to start with max... BrianKitts
boolean's are evil, there are many different ways to make an object.... that which doesn't require booleans IMO is the best option. As for modeling preferences.... it's just like rendering software, use what you are good at. And there's no reason that you can't use more than one program. I used to use primarily formZ for my modeling.... but organics I did in max. I'm now moving to only using max as my efficiency has improved. I know people who are amazing modelers in autocad as well. If you have the right pipeline setup for work efficiency, it doesn't matter what you model in. Assuming it's efficient.... if you're using max....filelink ROCKs.
