Ky Lane
Hey guys, need some helpw ith a material, or maybe something else? I need a material to be completely transparent, however still have shadows cast upon it displayed, as it will be overlaying something I just need to see the shadows, not the rest of the object. Any pointers?
ttzol
Try this . You could create whatever you want inclding materials on it . Make sure that you are pleased by the kind of shadow that it produces , then turn it of , dont let it render by using its object parameters . I dont remember exactly , but it is quite easy . Its shadows should appear , but not the object itself . If you dont manage , i'll try later to do it my self , and give you a more detailed solution
Tommy L
Need a bit more info. Could be a matte, but it depends what the object is and whats behind it and whether you want to render more than one pass. Also, do you want the object being rendered to have its own material appear when in shadow. Post a screengrab and scribble some child-like writing in photoshop, that always helps. sterealkey
I agree with Tommy, show us what you mean. From your description I would think that you'd need to use Vray Mtlwrapper with a 0 alpha contribution.
kippu
or a matte with a -1 with affect shadows and affect alpha
Ricardo Eloy
Why not simply going to its properties and turning "Visible to camera" off?
Ky Lane
Sorry, probably havent explained myself well.. Ok, imagine a scene... a plane (ground), on that plane I place a box, and aim a direct light so its casting a nice shadow onto the plane... as part of my environment, I have a nice jpg or movie...now the plane purely exists to represent the ground in my environment background.. what I want is the shadows Im casting onto the place appear, but not the plane itself.. Hope that makes sense
