Duchess
Hello everyone, I've been having problems using Mental Ray in Vis. Everytime I render, there seem to be lines, as if the light I was using were being shone behind blinds? Like this: http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/676/orbitaltest04pi6.jpg Also, I can't seem to get my shadows to show up dark enough. I only have 1 light source, and it's turned up to 1.0. It's a warm yellow, and is a Mental Ray Directional.

Duchess
I've turned all of the smoothing groups to 0 and it's still giving me the same weird lines.
ipxstudios
Looks like somewhere you have selected vertices and moved them or accidently applied a modifier to a plane. There are shadow lines on the building to where the roof planes are not flat. I would just create a new plane for the cad plan and create new boxes for the buildings. Justin Hunt
What is the lighting setup, rendering setup and material setup. I dont think its a geometry problem, it could be a shader one JHV
mskin
this happens to me when poly objects aren't completely "closed".... vertices aren't welded or there is overlapping edges, creating borders. as a result, i get these sort of shadows. in max, there is an STL modifier that checks for errors in solids. use it if you have it, otherwise, make sure your solids are clean by checking the vertices. i do this by selecting them with a cross fence and seeing how many are selected. if selection is greater tan 1, than i weld them... continue until all vertices are welded or scene renders as desired. i often have this problem after importing a DWG
