Dave Buckley
Can anyone help, i am using Max 9 and Mental Ray 3.5 and would like some tips for lighting an interior at night, but from an exterior point of view. For example, looking at a hotel from across the street at night, and some of the rooms have the interior lights switched on. see attachment for another example. Tips for the lighting setups would be much appreciated
big_perm
Looks like you have a good start, one thing i think that helps with this, is a good glass reflecting the ambient sky, and possibly a window treatment to give the interior some depth. neko
the image attached is quite good, but that's not yours, correct ? i'm just getting acquainted to MAX9/mr myself, so i don't have the confidence to offer up too much, but if you are looking to do something similar to that image then you probably still want to use mr sun/sky and photometric lights for the interior. i had all sorts of problems mixing standard volume lights with the sun/sky for my night shot. i had to turn the sun/sky off and make sure logarithmic exposure control was not capped by exterior daylight. hope that helps a little.....the best way to get good answers is to experiment yourself and then post the results with your settings.
