jinsley
The only program currently available to me for rendering is AutoCAD 2007 with post work being done in photoshop... any help or comments would be more than appreciated! I ussually do most of my rendering in 3DS Max, so this is kind of an experiment for me. I do have access to CAD 2008, but have not installed it yet. Thx. -JI
Devin Johnston
That is pretty impressive for an AutoCAD rendering, I've never messed with it my self.
jinsley
Thank you... lots of emphasis on the photoshop...
neko
i like it.......must have had a good teacher, james ! the clouds at the top don't do much for me - they almost look upside down or distorted. i like what you've tried to do with the glass, but the one storefront window front and center at the base looks different (flat) camera / perspective correction is always a hot topic for compositions like this - in this case i think it works, but maybe try a view a little higher and less 45 degrees to both sides ? nice work though....where are you at now ? jinsley
Haha... yeah, he was o.k., was always pretty good at tearing my CAD apart! The clouds DO need some work... I don't have much stock photography right now (I probably should have taken a few walks during our spell of nice weather and snapped a few photos!) The storefront window looks different because it is the only one with concrete wall directly behind it inside... I'll fix that. I will do a few more renders with the updates and re-post them. Thx for the tips Paul! I am currently at dysarchitecture (www.dysarchitecture.com), working with Trevor and the crew.
neko
that's right - you've been there since after night school. tell the cheap bastards to buy you VIZ at least. i've just updated to MAX9 and working with mental ray now....it's very good. i especially like that i can set up a daylight system with MR sun and sky now - couldn't do that in VIZ before. jinsley
Yeah, Mental Ray is wicked as long as you get a handle on the caustics and everything else. I'm still working on it... most of the time I just rely on radiosity. They won't buy any licences for VIZ... some dummy told the partners that the renderer in CAD is top notch and I don't need it... give Trevor a hard time about the VIZ for me. Any tips on how I could sell them on it? I was thinking of rendering the same model with Max, but my computer is a too slow a bugger.
neko
i'll have a chat with trevor for you........he's going to need to sharpen his modeling / rendering skills soon anyways (ask him why - you might find him very supportive of your cause) why not sneak over to BCIT and do it.....it wouldn't take a smart lad like you very long to set that up in VIZ 2007
jinsley
That's a great idea, are the labs open right now? What nights are you teaching?
neko
i'm off for the summer, james - no classes. the labs should be open. the only worry is that they are re-imaging / loading software, but i don't think that is going to happen for a few weeks.
