Bwana Kahawa
Not sure what 'x' means, but I've found it pretty useful. I've got work through their Member's Directory, and the meetings have given me a few new perspectives on things. Plus it helps put a few faces to names. neil poppleton
I'm a member of the SAI and it is what you want it to be, get involved with meetings or have images and news published in the newsletter, get a page on their website etc
Iain Denby
I'm also a member, and on the Council and management committee. I agree with Neil , that it is what you want it to be. I think one of the main benefits now is having your presence on the SAI new look website. It allows you to have your own profile page with up to 100 of your own images on display. You have control over it at all times too. There's a Forum on there too which, admittedly is just getting going. But, most of all, you are amongst other illustrators of varied styles and techniques, from watercolour to Gouache to markers and digital too. We can all learn from each other. We have meetings twice a year, which are VERY informal and often have demonstrations of techniques, or talks by top people in the industry. If nothing else, it's a chance to chat and pick the brains of other fellow illustrators, and broadens your horizons with regards to your own work. doncoe
The SAI - The Society of Architectural Illustration - is the only organisation which will confer a world-wide recognised Professional Qualification to those whose work is assessed by our Council as being of the very highest standard. Application for membership is simple and painless. See the "join" page on our web site. We can also offer Corporate Membership to firms employing architectural illustrators. We hold occasional meetings at which we have a laugh, compare our work with others and generally talk Architectural Illustration. Our stuff ranges from digital all the way up to traditional watercolour sketches. (Dibbers is one of our more - "electrical" members!) Come on in, the water's lovely. timillustrator
It has a new forum, which like anything new is slow to get going, but has a lot of potential (at least as much as this website). Check it out here http://www.sai.org.uk/forum/ I think there are a lot of advantages, it is cheaper than the ASAI and is also international as well. doncoe
I think I'm right in saying that whereas one may join the ASAI by merely paying the annual subscription and you're in, with the SAI one needs to have ones work assessed as being of acceptable standard before the professional qualification is conferred. Having MSAI after your name is the hallmark and recognition of excellence which is recognised thoughout the World. Fellowships are conferred following election by the SAI Council and are awarded for services to and advancement of the Profession and are denoted by the suffix FSAI. I checked it and nice work, British Artists just blow my mind with their capabilities. But I am more inclined to re-joining the ASAI (I was a student member in 2001) because I am in Canada now and we are neighbours.
