Is the 3gb Switch required for Max 64 bit with XP 64bit?

Recommended Posts

I have a system with XP pro 64 bit and am running Max 9 64 bit. I noticed when the system starts up it only displays 3.5 GB of RAM even though I have 4 GB installed.

I have been ignoring this but I am back to crashing max again so i am wondering if the system is using all available RAM. Do I need to use the 3GB switch? Also, are there any there settings that need to be modified so that Max will not be limited in memory?

(My motherboard will take up to 6GB so I don't think the memory is unsupported).

Thanks.

That's strange...are they memory crashes for sure ?

Try raising your virtual memory to at least 10Gigs, mine is at 50gigs so I will probably never exceed that...but really, you should not be running out of memory...it should switch over to virtual, which is MUCH slower, but still no crashes...

Reasons of MAX 9 x64 crashing for now are:

-D3D(Dx) bugs

-Vray/Material editor bugs

-Max grouping bugs

OT:

50GB of virtual RAM??

What is that for?

Detailed model of Milky Way?

Kiding, but that is really huge amount of ram.
