JamesTaylor
when i click on an object in autoCAD 2007 whilst viewing in any shaded mode it always selects a piece of geometry behind the actual object i want to select. The only way i can select the object i want 1st time is to rotate the model so the geometry is visable against the viewport window. Obvisiously which ever way i try to select something i'm having to do extra commands / clicks each time.... i've put up with it for sometime now, but this afternoon its driven my crazy!! Does anyone else suffer this, Does anyone know how to correct the issue??
neko
i try to avoid using those visual styles while editing - stick to wireframe or perhaps use two model space viewports if you really need to visualize the design in shaded mode. another option is to have the 'visual style' toolbar active - it is no big deal to dynamically keep switching it when needed that's probably not very helpful, but i don't think there is any solution to that problem....if there is i want to hear it too ! JamesTaylor
thanks Paul, i really want an answer to the issue rather than work arounds... the problem is that which ever way we work around it we are actually either clicking 3 or 4 times to achieve what should be possible in 1 click whilst also having to move our cursor across 50% of the screen each time.... although a very small issue per selection the time spent doing this when added up over a weeks worth of modelling can't be good! guess i'm stuck using the shift key to deselect the geometry which isn't needed.! neko
agreed it is annoying, and agreed that even a couple of extra clicks adds up, but i still question why you need to use the shaded visual styles when modeling anyways ? maybe you need to get used to wireframe mode. i know it can be more confusing at times, but you'll get used to it. i typically only use the shaded styles when analyzing a project or showing it to others. i know what you're thinking "why can't it work properly in all styles", but that is just the nature of the beast, innit ? JamesTaylor
I tend to use all styles whilst modelling and have no real problem with using wireframe, but i do prefer to use a shaded view as it is simply easier to "see" and after all why make things more difficult for ourselves??? i have, until this post, always accepted it as being the nature of the beast also, but when you think about it, its pretty pathetic that Autodesk would sell us a product where the most basic function only works correctly in 1/5 of the display modes and that we will, or Autodesk expect us to, accept that its the "nature of the beast" i'm by no means having a go at yourself here, i guess i'm just having a rant at something thats p*ssed me off for too long now!!!! the simple thing is that i am thinking "why can't it work properly in all styles".... geeesss i'd take a keyboard back if it couldn't type, my car back when it goes wrong.... our clients come back asking us to change someones hair style or jumper because it'll make their building "look better"??? yet we have to accept we've bought something that doesn't work properly??? sorry rant over!!!!..... so anyone got a way to get the selections to work properly??!! neko
nope. good rant though - do you feel better now ? autocad is incredibly frustrating at times, with all their new 'features' and changes that nobody seems to want, or don't work properly. i guess in this case you have to give them a chance to iron out the details. these new visual styles and changes to 3D functions were all new to 2007, so we'll see in 2008......tell me this isn't 2008 it's happening in ? ndundiz
Even if you do have to make additional clicks, that is modeling. Set your hot keys up so that it is quicker to command and execute. Utilize your layering systems and express tools for layering. Make sure your hot keys are setup for those express commands. I only utilize other visual styles when viewing a different perspective. I model only in wire frame. its gets tough with all the lines and segments...but you don't end up with your problem.
Island J
Have you tried using the cycle command? Mouse over the area, then hold shift and press the spacebar, left click on the object you want. This was a downgrade to how it work before 2008. Before that all you had to do was hold the ctrl key and click until you got what you wanted.
