Slice Modifier changes mesh

Does anyone else have the problem when using the Slice modifier of vertices disappearing. I have numerous vertices and edges that just go away. I have tried creating a new object and attaching, putting an edit mesh on top. Either way, numerous vertices are . . . just gone.

 

If this helps, I am applying Slice it to an Editable Poly. Also when I put an Edit Mesh on top, it also changes the mesh. Weird.

 

Any help would be much appreciated.
