markf
The last few versions of Max have this behavior on my system. It seems that most of the time when I hold the shift key and move an object to create a clone, it does not clone on the first try. It does it correctly on the second. I thought this might hav ebeen somehow related to my system, but now I'm using a new computer and keyboard and the same thing happens quite frequently. It's annoying and over time accounts for allot of unnecessary extra steps. Does any one else notice/have this trouble or is it just me? Next, with my new computer the Alt+W key does not maximize or minimize the viewport when certain simple objects are selected. I can have two editable meshes and when one is selected the alt+W works fine, when the other is selected it doesn't work. Weird. I had MAX 9 on a different computer and this was not a problem. Now with Max 9 on the new computer (with GeForce 8800 GTX video card) I have this. Any ideas on how to fix this?w
Crazy Homeless Guy
i have the same problem with shift occasionally. with a editable mesh selected, alt+w is 'weld target mode', it may have a few more shortcuts tied to it than just that.
mr. a
The Alt+W issue is a bug I think, it happens at random to me as well. I am just in the habit of not selecting any object first or better yet press the space bar to lock your selection and use the toggle button at the bottom right of the screen.... The shift.....sorry can't help you there. Are u sure u are pressing shift completely before you start moving ... maybe u r working at lightning speed for ur computer.... markf
I think that the fact that alt+W is weld target may be the trouble. I'm going to assign a different key to the maximize viewport and see if that helps. Now that I think of it I used to have just W assigned as the maximize viewport key, and I did not have this trouble (should have thought of this myself). Thank you for your helpful reply! As for the shift key trouble, yes I am pressing down hard enough on the key. I previously thought it might be a problem with my keyboard, but now with a brand new keyboard the same problem continues to re-occur.
Koper
no problems on this end, but then again, I have de-activated allot of shortcut groups, especially the edit/ poly, mesh, spline shortcuts groups. they are new to max9(?) and I bet you that the target weld (alt-w) is in those groups. why autodesk did this no-one knows. all you need to do is go the the customize UI, on the keyboard tab, go to the group dropdown box, select the group i.e. 'editable poly', and uncheck the active box then max will work again like in the good ol'days
