pipjor
how do you format a HD with XP home OS already on it... i've tried booting form XP CD and I can format/delete everything but then automatically starts installing XP again.. I'm trying to set up Raid 0 so i have to have both drives "empty" before XP is installed ad i'm not sure how to go about doing this....
AJLynn
You'll need to use the raid bios to configure the raid, then probably have a floppy drive with the raid drivers and use the F6 key to load additional drivers while booting from the XP CD. AJLynn
The BIOS won't just automatically kill the drive for you when you put it in RAID mode? Okay then. Can you put it in another computer, or a USB external case, and get some other computer to delete the partition for you? (That's what you want to do.) Can you go into the Windows installer and at the part where you choose the hard drive partition, delete the partition, confirm that you want the data to be lost or whatever it says, then don't do any more of the steps, just hard-reboot the PC. I've never actually seen the XP Home installer, I've only ever used XP Pro...
pipjor
i cant use another PC to delete.. i am able to delete, confirm and it does delete everything on the HD from the XP CD but after deleting everything it starts installing XP and i don't see a place to stop the install... the drive is $65, i'll probally just go out and buy another one, it's pretty frustrating trying to do something simple like formating and not being able to.. AJLynn
I do remember that in XP Pro install you have three different options for deleting partitions, creating partitions and formatting partitions. The only one you want to use is the first one. Beyond that, what the heck, we're not Microsoft tech support.
manta
Well if you're one of a few people that have a floppy drive...you can download a boot disk which should have FDISK on it, to delete the partitions, just boot into the floppy and type fdisk.exe and choose delete primary partition... I still use my windows 98 disk to do all this stuff...its still good for something...lol
