Lily Wei
I have Viz 2005. I'm looking for ways to add a glow to an object. I read some tutorials online. Is Video Post is required? I don't have Video Post. http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/11470-how-do-i-make-object-glow.html I tried the Effects > Lense > Glow but it doesn't work with the object ID or Effects ID... am I missing something? Help! thanks in advance.
ipxstudios
the effects>glow is for your light source I believe. If you want your object to glow add self-illumination to it and make transparent - add an opacity map and place an omni light inside your object, then apply the effects>glow to the omni. If you are using V-ray then apply the vray lightmaterial to it and make transparent. The vray material will bounce light off the objects around it, then you just have to adjust the strength to look right.
Lily Wei
Hi ipxstudios, I'm trying to apply a glow to an object, not to a light. For example, create a 3D letter, and apply a glow around the letter to make it look like it's rear-illuminated. The glow should look like it's evenly distributed and should be in the exact shape of the letter. THanks
Conor Clancy
Lily, you could use Blur in render effects and get it to only bur the material on the object you want to glow, but set the blur to illuiminate. I think. I haven't done this in a while, but I think that is how you do it.
r2
did you assign a material in the material editor the correct effects ID number? in the glow element tab under options, checkmark the effects ID, pick any number. Go to your material editor, pick a material for the glowing object and change the default "0" to the same number as in the effects ID. I usually use a glow size of .1 for letters and play around with the intensity to not blow out the screen. Something around 75 is ok. Hope this makes sense. Lily Wei
Thank you Hobo and r2, I did finally make it work by adjusting the options in glow effect. I'm all set! Lily
