jasondutoit
Hi! This is one of two projects I'm currently working on...so updates won't be as frequent as I'd like. This is my first proper attempt at a night shot. Any comments would be great! I'm using 3dsmax 8, and Vray
ipxstudios
Lighting looks good - foreground landscape elements would be a plus.

KCLegend79
The lighting looks good. It is coming along nicely. I would be interested in hearing what your settings are in Vray for the sky and lighting.
jasondutoit
Hi! Thanks for the reply's... foreground landscape elements would be a plus I agree, although those finishes will have to be decided on by my boss. I might just do my own 'landscaping' and work on this image as my own personal image. wat method did u use? vray sun n phycam? Actually no, oddly enough I'd probably get more accurate results if I used that method, but I haven't really used vray camera's and I'm not 100% what shutter speed/F-stop/ISO to use. Basically what I did was: For the interior spaces I've used photometric point lights, using IES, wherever there's a physical light in the scene. I've only been doing that for interiors for about the last month or so, but as a result I think my lighting's looking a lot better! For the exterior I used a 'gradient ramp' map for the background, and then I instanced it into Vray's skylight, with a multiplier of 4.0. I did have an HDRI in Vray's reflection slot, but I've since removed it and instead put the background gradient ramp in it's place. That's all there is to it with regard to the lighting setup. For the rendering I used 'irradiance map' for primary bounces, and 'light cache' for secondary bounces. I've had to keep my setting's for both quite low ('low' preset for irradiance map, and 500 subdivs for light cache) because of time constraints. Anyways...I'll post an update hopefully in the next day or two!
jasondutoit
Here's an update...I've added some furniture etc. to the interior on the left of the image, and I've removed a sunset reflection map that I was using because the reflections looked a little out of place... Unfortunately the garden area still looks a bit sparse
