TOUGH
Guys my name is Terry (aka TOUGH)and I am new to the forums. I have recently decided to try my hand at Mentalray using Max 9. I do alot of car renders and scenes for modelers in many forums. I develop many different material techniques but can't seem to get a handle on a nice chrome material using A&D for mentalray. Can anyone direct me to a good tut or be willing to send me a material. Thank you in advance. Terry
Dave Buckley
the arch and design chrome preset in max 9 is perfectly fine, it just depends how you treat it as to how it will apear in your scene, chrome needs something to reflect as it has a very high specular attribute, therefore HDR and good specualr lighting would be the key here
Dave Buckley
maybe you should post some renders of the material that your getting and the material your trying to achieve? here's one of mine, A&D chrome, HDR, skylight, spotlight, FG
TOUGH
Thanks Dave I don't want to have a huge render time and lots of lighting in the scene do to the fact that many of the renders I do are for people who can't render properly so I feel I am helping them out and it get's my name out there. I will attach a render I just did lastnight....the material on the rim however is raytrace with a mix shellac and falloff. Feed back is welcome. Thanks again Dave I will post a render of what I am getting and it's nothing like yours which btw is nice. Terry
Dave Buckley
the render time on mine was around 2 minutes (if that), so it doesn't really take that long
