Brian Smith
the answer cant really be said in a few words because they are both better in certain situations...here is a demo video that talks about the two http://3dats.vismasters.com/static/training/vray/
Ricardo Eloy
The VRay manual is also quite clear on that. It tells each's advantages/disvantages.

mahorela
it really depends on what your rendering capabilities are as well. Light Cache is much faster than qmc and although I think qmc is slightly better quality.....it is pretty hard to notice the difference. I also think that the light cache can be easier to configure to get flicker free animation....thats been my experience anyway.
Nic H
http://www.spot3d.com if u own vray u will know! chaos has alot of threads on this subject. like bob said it depends on what you are rendering? moving camera no moving objects? then IRR Map and Lightcache will prob be your best bet for smooth and flicker free animation. Moving objects etc? qmc lightcache is a better option once you configure settings to get rid of the noise and if you can cope with higher render times. yudk
i prefer light cache for interior render because it's faster than qmc. qmc is good for a detail design. for exterior design i used one of them depends on which situation.. but i'm still learning and lack of experience..
