RyanSpaulding
Hey guys, Recently got that Acer Quad Core with 2GB ram and am planning a dual boot to XP. Does anyone know if systems can handle 2 1GB chips and 2 512MB chips? I put mine in yesterday and it squawked at me big-time, not allowing me to do it. Should I be putting in 4 of the same size chips?
Matt McDonald
It's generally recommended that the sticks match but you should be able to do it. More than likely your MB is a dual channel board with four memory slots. Put 1.5 gb in one channel and 1.5 gb in the other channel and you should be ok. More than likely you are trying to run 2 gb in one channel and 1 gb in the next and the asymmetry is causing problems.
RyanSpaulding
Actually, upon further testing, I found I have 1 bad RAM chip. One of the 512mb ones is bad, the other allows a boot.
