u.biq
From http://fryrender.com FREE DEMO VERSION The limitations of the free version of fryrender are: * The render will be watermarked * The maximum resolution available is 800x800 * Network rendering is disabled * RC4 (real-time) capabilities are disabled Aside from this, fryrender DEMO is a fully-operational and time-unlimited demo you can use to evaluate our rendering technology. Happy fryin'

AJLynn
could someone give me hint as to what i do with the .php file that is downloading for the fryrender demo? not too good with my file extensions Click the download link instead of saving as or using a download manager? It worked for me in Firefox - I got a ~20MB .exe file.

AJLynn
Try an unmodified, non-adblocking web browser like IE, with no download managers running, go to the web site, click downloads, click the picture of the demo.

Dave Buckley
rite i have the demo but how do i get my max scenes into fryrender? sorry i'm being thick - very thick mmm i don't like it, or do i? maybe its because i don't know how to use it : p
u.biq
mmm...you have to put the fry max plugin in max plugin folder, then assign fry as the renderer these are the first steps
Dave Buckley
haha, i'm not that bad, (in fact i was being, but i did state i was being very thick, had a bit of a heavy one last nite, so brain isn't too with it today) i just am not to keen as it isn't the quickest of renderers, and speed is essential, time is money, we all know that one : p
Ernest Burden III
i just am not to keen as it isn't the quickest of renderers, and speed is essential, time is money, we all know that one : p Well, no. But with both Maxwell and Fry, one of the selling points is the speed with which you can get a scene ready to render by having intuitive, realistic controls. Also, they both have the ability to render all possible lights at once and you can play with the light levels later, so you can do a variety of images from one base (long) render. It depends on how you want to work, but these programs are worth a try. And since both now have demos (plus one or two free ones like Indigo) you can. AJLynn
I'm trying this now. So far, I like it - there are some things that Maxwell does to annoy me that this doesn't. Does anybody know of any comparisons or studies on how this handles large geometry?
AJLynn
...so it hardly takes any time at all to load up my 550,000 poly scene, but it isn't really working correctly. My building is sort of tunnel like, an alley with a building that bridges it, and open on both ends with enough open space above to let in light, but the sun goes straight through the building above and some other parts also don't cast shadow. The overall effect is pretty weird. Meanwhile, I just can't get a result I like from mental ray, with such a difficult light propagation / exposure problem (the exterior daylight flag and all) and much as I hate to say it, my best results by far are coming from Maxwell. I hope my new quad core is fast enough...
Sawyer
Yeah its a pretty sweet piece of software. I need to get a new cpu to make the purchase make sense. The aeronoise feature is great. I really like the ease of setup. I don't like having to render materials and not having much show up in the vp will take a bit to get used to.
