Guest nazcaLine
Hi. Right now I'm in the process of learning Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 with the video tutorials from Lynda.com (excellent tuts, just for dummies like me). But recently a friend of mine told me that After Effects can do all that Premiere does, and even more. He says that After Effects is like a super version of Premiere. Is that true? Or they're used for totally different things? Should I learn them both? Or just After Effects, since it can do (suposedly) everything Premiere can? Thanks for your opinions and comments. ipxstudios
Yes I would go for After Effects or even Discreet's combustion(my preference). There may some applications in which you will have to use Premiere for but you can solve most in the other two programs.
Limbus
Well Premiere is an editing programm while AfterEffects is a compositor. So they dont do the same thing. Both can do some stuff the other one does though. If you are going to be editing alot I would get Premiere. If you want to composit alot of images I would get AfterEffects. Editing in AfterEffects is much better than compositing in Premiere. And maybe the production bundle with both programs and more might be an even better choice. colinsmith
Florian has it right, you CAN do the same stuff in both, but Premiere is a lot easier to cut and edit fotage in, where After Effects is a lot more powerfull for compositing, colour correction or just about anything else. The nice thing is that if you have both, you can edit in premiere, save the project, and then open it in After Effects with no render requried. With the CS3 editions that integration moves on even more. That really works well.
