njohneer
How is artistic and technical talent balanced in architectural visualization? Personally, I am 75% technical and 25% artistic/creative. How will this affect my becoming an architectural illustrator? What are your own percentages? Thanks
Brian Cassil
How is artistic and technical talent balanced in architectural visualization? Thanks Now that's what I call an open ended question. There is plenty of room in arch vis for tech and art. Of course the best understand both very well. I do remember a time when studios only cared about seeing an artistic portfolio and then they would "train people on the job" but I think that attitude backfired in many cases and there is a greater appreciation for technically minded people even in digital art studios nowadays. However, if you are looking for a job, the thing that will speak loudest is your portfolio. The better it looks, the more opportunities you will have. So I guess one way to look at it is that your technical skills will serve you so far as it helps you in creating good art.
Devin Johnston
Anyone can learn the technical side of Viz, the part that is the hardest to master is the artistic side. Most of the people doing this come from an architectural background so they have some idea about composition and form, but I think the guy's that are really good understand lighting and material far better than your standard architect. I'm more of the former not the latter but I wish it were the other way around so if I had to give my self a rating I'd say it's 80/20, but I'm trying to change that.
