RyanSpaulding
Man, I've been out of the comp building for awhile now...and during this time, video card selection as turned to complete madness. SO many XT's, GT's, GTS's, SE's....holy crap. Does anyone know if the BFG Geforce 8600 GT OC is better than the ATI Radeon SE 1650 HM 512mb? HAHA! See? That naming convention is ridiculous. That card seems to waver between $89 and $390...and I cant even tell the diff. How frustrating
AJLynn
Yes, the Geforce 8600GT is better than the Radeon SE 1650. Unfortunately almost all the testing out there is for video games, but the requirements are becoming pretty similar. I found this chart which is interesting - basically, the higher on the chart, the better, and it shows comparables between nVidia and ATI and across generations - so there are nVidia 7-series cards that are better than 8-series, etc.
manta
I agree...its getting ridiculous everywhere...I was watching Tv today, a Head and Shoulders shampoo commercial...they now have 9 choices of dandruff shampoo...One company...that's just stupid, no wonder it takes me 5 times longer to shop than it used to...sorry didn't mean to go off topic, but its just a sign of the times... RyanSpaulding
NICE CHART! Helps a TON. I should do some benchmarking quick for 3D apps I have. Ok, next little bit...anyone know the proper order in how to take out and install a new vid card? Is it shut down, open BIOS, disable vid card, take it out, install new card, hope windows recognizes it, install driver, reboot?
AJLynn
You shouldn't have to do anything with the bios...
