dpcaltdcah
Ok, so I just moved to a new computer in the office and now whenever I open the material editor in Max I get a bitmap filter error. It says, 'Failed to allocate filter tables for this bitmap. Not enough memory. This bitmap may render incorrectly." The scene is pretty small, does not have any rpcs and I do already have the 3GB switch on. Again this happens when I just open the material editor. Or sometimes when I switch to shaded view also. Once the error comes up the program freezes and I have to end task. Please help!!!
AlNe
I think there is a bitmap with unsupported by max compression type. 3dmax does not supports ZIP and JPEG compression type for *.TIF files for example. If you had no time to check them, simply merge your scene to new one.
dpcaltdcah
Nope, that's not it...but thanks. anyone have any other ideas??? It's driving me crazy!
thatch
Try reducing the file size of the bitmap or convert it to a diiferent format.
dpcaltdcah
well, I generally do that as a rule when I start. the thing is, it happens no matter what file or what project I'm working in. so it doesn't seem to be any particular bitmap causing the problem. and like I said, it's ONLY this computer. the other computers running max can open the material editor just fine in the same files. which is weird because this computer acutally has MORE memory than the other ones... I have a similar problem and i have been trying to isolate it, so i opened a new scene and opened the material editor, at this point the material editor opens normally showing all materials in grey, go to the diffuse slot of the material, click none, then bitmap, go to the smallest bitmap that i can find, in this case, "Doors & Windows.Metal Doors & Frames.Aluminum Frame.Anodized.Dark Bronze.Satin.jpg" click open and...... Wait, it has just fixed by itself as i was doing and writting this. The last thing i did before trying this was when the "failed to allocate filter tables for this bitmap" error appeared i clicked accept, left it the computer thinking as I went to luch, when i came back the material was all black not showing the bitmap, so i tried to reload the material and had the "failed to allocate filter tables for this bitmap" error again, closed the 3dsmax.exe process in task manager, loaded 3dsmax again, searched CGarchitect.com for this problem, found cassandras thread, started to write this post as i was doing the steps in max, and when i expected the "failed to allocate filter tables for this bitmap" error it did showed the bitmap on the material.
