need help with max crashing!

I've tried that and it actually does work--I can open the material editor as long as it's empty--but it's screwing up my workflow and I keep forgetting to reset it after I change a material. any ideas on why just one computer has a problem??

I've noticed that this particular machine is also having filter table allocation errors while it's rendering overnight. so it seems to be some kind of memory thing but I don't know how to fix it.

hey cassandra,

I think I may have met you last summer? I worked at dpcaltd last summer and the one before that.

Which computer is it? The older gray one is probably on its last legs. We basically melted one computer in 2005. If you have the time, you may want to reinstall max, I ended up having to do that twice.

hey greg,

nope, doyle's gone to grad school and I'm at his computer. so really it's one of the best ones we've got (which isn't saying much). and otherwise it seems to be totally fine. If I don't have to ask fred to reinstall though, that would be great... ;-) anyway, mike never had this problem, it only started a couple weeks ago after he left...

the whole network in this office sucks. that's part of the problem.

I'm now starting a new project and noticing that this material editor problem doesn't happen with small files and when I use the default 3x2 material slots instead of 5x3 or 6x4. so it must be memory-related. or graphics card maybe??

tom did come back but then he left at the same time as doyle for a new job.

i think we had a problem like this in our office a while back with final render materials, and i seem to remember that if you set your material editor renderer to be the same renderer that your production engine is it fixed the problem. to change it open the render dialog box and scroll down to the bottom of the common tab and open the assign renderer box, then click on the three dots next to the material editor. hope this works for you.
