buying the right card

Recommended Posts

Hi all

this is a continuation of the thread "boxx impressions" and through all your helpful responses we have decided to go with the HP workstations. The only variable left for us now is deciding on the right card.

thankyou to Chasteen for this comment

"Bob,

Regardless of what brand workstation you buy, you might want to re-think the fx3500's. XP64, Vista, and Max 8 and above work better with Direct 3D. The fx3500's will run D3D, but probably not much better than a gaming card. It wouldn't be a good idea to sink a lot of money in an OpenGL card especially with Max 2008 on the horizon."

As said before we are a max and vray studio running xp 64bit.

any information or recommendations on what card would be best would be most appreciated.

thanks

This is quite true for max 8, but i assure you you wont notice the diffrence. especially if you use the card with maxextreem. im using the quadro 3450 and it feel just the same when using my 8800gtx on max 9....except the max 9 comes with nvidia maxextreem for direct x...

So for future use i would forget about quadro and go for a gaming card...gts or gtx. might as well go for the ultra version of 8800 since its still cheaper than the quadro..
