tasi55
Hi there, Wanting to know whether anyone could help me on this one. I am looking to upgrade my graphics card (actually my whole system). I have Quadro FX 1400's in SLI setup. They were alright for smaller things but when I use V ray with and have a few comple models in there, the viewports get real slow...arghh. I dont have the money to upgrade much higher in the Quadro range like the FX3500's. But am very interested in what people have been saying about the GeForce 8800 GTS. Will this gaming card in do the job? I use MAX 9, Revit, Viz 2008, etc. Would it be beneficial for me to maybe look at the 8800 GTX? Any help would be much appreciated. tasi55
Ok, will it do it better than a FX1400 would?
AJLynn
Probably. Don't forget, an FX1400 is 2 generations old.
slawnick
I'm currently using a Quadro FX 3500 to run Max 9; and I am quite underwhelmed by it's performance.
Zdravko Barisic
8800GTX/GTS+D3D driver for 3DSMAX is better than every older quadro
visual3d
Well what zika mention is true...the GTX and GTS out performs even 4500 series from quadro.
Hazdaz
i didn't even think you could run FX1400s in SLI.. and on top of that, SLI (AFAIK) offers up no benefit to 3D apps - only games. anyways, i would never waste money on a Quadro card - if you get a fast gaming card, you will be amazed at the speed difference - and make sure to run it under Direct3D in MAX. tasi55
Thanks everyone for your help. Man, I wish I didnt waste all that time and money using these Quadros thinking this is as good as it gets. I use revit as well as max, working in SLI speedup my workflow a little, but nothing astonishing. Think Im gonna go with the 8800 GTS 640mb XXX edition. Hearing good things about them. Thank you all for the advice. It is much appreciated. Jay
gfa2
Good call. I've got a FX 4500 and I'm not overly impressed, I'll go GeForce next time.
mik3
I dont think this upgrade will make wonders. prof graphics cards and gaming graphic cards only has a slight difference in performance as far as ease of viewport performance is concerned and yet heaps of difference in price.......check your other hardware(ram, processor), 3dmax settings(graphics drivers) and workflow.....
