zulks
Hello all, What is your favorite way to get Solidworks geometry into Max? I've been using .stl, but the models do not import to scale.
Claudio Branch
Try looking at NPOWER Software's website: http://www.npowersoftware.com/translators/PT_SWToMAX_Overview_.htm They make translators for Catia, Solidworks, Pro/E, etc. I spoke with them at Siggraph in San Diego while they gave me a live demo. I was impressed... I used to do alot of Pro/E work and the beauty of their solution is that the translator recreates the original model tree heirarchy. It allows you to optimize the mesh as it would be if you had just started modeling it in Max/Maya. It also has a very powerful assembly restructuring feature and the ability to easily repair any part of the mesh that didn't translate correctly. If you are doing mechanical/product design and are looking for a means of leveraging your digital assets into visualization or marketing, then take a serious look at this tool. I used to do the stl conversion myself out of Pro/E. My models had a few hundred parts and I DID NOT want to model it again in Max. It was messy, but it worked. There is a better way today...
