Chad Warner
I've got a HUGE marble wall that I need to work on that has the attached pattern on it. The grain pattern is very pronounced and I don't think tiling the image is going to work very well, even after pshop cleanup. I've looked to see if I could find any texture generators that would do marble very well, and I was wondering if anyone knows of anything that would work well. Thanks, Chad
AJLynn
Can you get one larger image and then, instead of outright tiling, make a few versions that are crops that change progressively and then book match them?
Chad Warner
That was how I dealt with it in the past, but the problem this time is that the largest piece I can get a picture of is a 12"x12" tile, and the tile in the rendering is 42" x 72", tiled over a wall that is 150' long and 50' tall. RodT
Have you considered visiting a contractor in your area that installs stone into homes/commercial places? They usually have solid slabs of stone that are 8'x12'. Your project will certainly have seams in it. They may even have several slabs from a single block. It might cost you a few dollars for the yard hand to shuffle the blocks for you, they may even want some photos for their sales department. I'll look into it and see if I can come up with anything. -Chad
znotlin
You can try Darktree, it is pretty nice. www.darksim.com you can install the simbiont as a plugin for free without buying darktree which will allow you to render out darktree textures. http://www.darksim.com/html/download_simbiont2.html Then you can grab some of the stone shaders that you can just get for free (the green or red marble will be your best bet below), then slap a color correct on it to pull out the saturation. http://www.darksim.com/html/download_simbiont2.html And..if you like it you can buy Darktree for tweaking the textures, and making your own, it is pretty sweet. Chad Warner
I actually tried the green marble shader, and while it worked quite well, it still wasn't getting me the results I was looking for. My client is being VERY picky about it, and I'm still having issues getting the effect they are looking for. So I'll keep working at it.
Crazy Homeless Guy
hi chad, i am facing a similar problem right now, but with a limestone that has a slight marbling grain to it. i did a quick search, and found this tutorial for creating marble in photoshop. i am going to try and adopt it to what i need, and create a large texture map that does not tile. maybe it will help you. http://www.insidegraphics.com/textures/photoshop_textures_tutorials.asp
Crazy Homeless Guy
....so, you can probably select individual random squares out of this tile, and re-arrange them into a non-tiling marble tile pattern. http://www.phase22.com/misc/cgarchitect/marble.jpg
Chad Warner
Certainly worth a shot! Thanks. I actually found another similar tutorial here: http://sigsource.com/tutorials.php?act=full&id=59 but the methods were slightly different.
