VIZ Crashing

have you tried an un-install/re-install yet? Could be a corrupt installation for some reason or the result from hte installation of some other unrelated program that is somehow affecting VIZ. If that doesn't work, try ending tasks one by one through your task manager and try to figure out if there is a conflicting program running. Other than that, it could be any number of things, including your graphics drivers somehow. Give these a try if you have time and keep us updated.

I had to uninstall the service pack and it worked. I hope this information can be usefull to you and good luck..

Start VIZ using -H in the command line and choose Software Z-Buffer as your video driver.

You do have a very serious Video Card issue, and that's what causing your crashes. I suggest you consult your hardware vendor, and suggest you update your video card drivers ASAP.

To start VIZ using the -H command line option, you can do:

1. Start > Run > CMD

2. Go go the folder where VIZ is installed

3. Type: 3dsviz -h

Or

1. Right-Click the VIZ icon and choose Properties

2. Add -h (space, hifen, h) after 3dsviz.exe. Example: c:\viz4\3dsviz.exe -h

3. OK all dialogs

4. Start VIZ

Hope this helps,

Alexander

Josh,

If your hardware was working before, and now it isn't, and you have not performed any software updates, I honestly suggest you replace your video card, or talk to your vendor about it.

If you did update drivers, softwares, then I suggest you try uninstalling them or try looking for newer drivers.

Your system is still unstable, and it's possible you'll see more problems in the near future. What you did is just "switch to safe more" and now you can keep on working. You didn't solve the problem.

Hope it helps,

Alexander

As a related issue:

I am unable to Open a model I am busy with. It's a simple shell of a factory, to be composited into a photo.

However, I CAN start a new file, and Merge the model into it and work.

However I cannot close and open even this new file.

Also tried exporting the whole model in 3DS and DXF, as well as the individual objects. Same result each time.

Any ideas?

Hi everyone...

I´ve noticed that in some circuntances, Viz does not want to work...

when I use the car paint material into some part of the model, it crashes(´course it warn me that an error accour but didn´t say where is the error)

using radiosity it simply does not render and crashes(same warning)

If I use a great amount of RPC content, same thing happens...

I own a 32Mb video card and my PC is a umble AMD K6 500Mhz with 132Mb RAM...

Maybe I should consider a machine upgrade but now it seems just impossible(no ca$h)

thanks for the help...

It seems that it is your machines spec. Its quite low. Are the errors on the same file or is it happening all the time? I have had problems with RPC content in the past and I have decided to stop using it all together, IMOP I think RPC is a quick lazy way to get content into scenes, which is detremental to the final look. but again, this is my opinion.

It´s me again...

well...

after an extensive cleaning of my faithful K6 wich include several files on the HD, SURPRISE!!!!

VIZ now runs solid as a rock...

as a professor of mine said to me "COMPUTERS DOES NOT BELONG TO EXACT SCIENCES, IT BELONGS TO HIDDEN SCIENCES" and those who work with CG knows this very well...

by the way it was the same file I was working...
