Modelling furniture

yes pulling the vertices works best - I had to model a lounge with that material.

Just start with a flat box, subdivide it, and locate all the places where you would place the buttons - then with soft selection pick all the vertices and move. Once you place the buttons just group the whole thing and bend it to the shape of the chair.

Subdividing your geometery first using a box then using softselection to move your vertices inward will help create the look of the furniture piece. I would create the back seperate then model the arm rest last. Be careful in using turbosmooth it could create an issue when using this modifier for smoothing. The folds can be modeled using a spline then create a cylinder or tube and extrude along spline will work. Try to see if you can receive more referrence material to complete your model from front, side and top view. Good luck the force is with you............:D
