pwharton
I have set up a file to render with mental render, I have set up the custom UI to Mental render. Added a Daylight system to the scene and set it to MR Sun and Sky. At times when I am rendering I get this message; “MSG 0.0 error: Shadow generator "Unknown Shadow Generator" on light "Sun02" is unsupported (mental ray only supports raytraced and shadow maps). Using raytraced shadows.” Its not every time I render, just sometimes…. IWhen you go to the modify panel to switch shadow maps there is no shadow types shown under the MR sun or sky. Am I missing something? What does this message mean? And where do you go to find out what the messages in the error panel means?
Thiago de Andrade
you probably have another sun applied to your scene. Check the object list.
Justin Hunt
It happens when the default shadow generator is set to "Advanced Raytrace" which Mentalray doesnt support. Mental will automatically change it to raytrace, so its something that you can quite safly ignore. JHV

Justin Hunt
Sorry the resarect this thread but I may have a solution If you go the the "custom UI and Defalts" in the customization menu there is a defaults for Mentalray a DesignViz mentalray, both of these will change the default shadow generator to Raytrace. Stumbled across this a few days ago JHV
