knbfoster
I just built my own system for the first time ever and I'm having some issues. The computer is working wonderfully except for when I hit the render button in Max. About 75% of the way thru, it shuts down. It does this every time. I've applied the silver compound on the processor and I've got multiple fans. I can't figure out what the problem could be. I would really appreciate some insight. I've got an Intel Core 2 Quad Processor, ASUS Motherboard, 2GB Ram, Ultra 550 Watt Power Supply, and EVGA 8600GT 512MB Video Card. Thanks.
kippu
i would suspect the 550watt power supply ... if it supplies less on juice then it could restart the machine.... try a different power supply unit
knbfoster
Thank you for the reply... I was told that 550 Watts was perfectly adequate for what I have in it. Also, the machine isn't restarting, it's just dying.
Arnold Sher
it is not power supply, you are having issues with faulty RAM. Try taking it out one by one and see which one is faulty. Ulternatively have a supplier check it out with their equipment, it tends to be much faster... That should do it...
Stephen Thomas
Not sure why this thread is duplicated but anyway.. I'm sure your memory and motherboard are both working fine. What the reply in the previous thread was referring to is that under 32-bit windows, only 1.5GB RAM is available to any one application. If this is exceeded, it can cause the whole system to crash resulting in the 'blue screen of death'. Causes of using too much ram can be lots of large bitmap files or RPCs which require to be loaded into memory at rendering time. Some more info on your scene setup, rendering engine might help.
