hi guys

we're upgrading our viz3. i want viz4 because max 6 is a waste of money for my line of work.

i contacted our dealer and she said this -

"There is a problem with the viz 3-4 upgrade so I have been told today there is a compatiablitity issue with ADT2004 infact any autodesk 2004 version with Viz 4 and the file format compatiability you would have to save the drawing as the old version apparently.!!!! Autodesk say this will be fixed in the new release of Viz 5 but they have not said when this will be!!!!!! So they have allowed customers to crossgrade to 3D Studio MAX 6 from viz for £1,195."

i pressume she's talking about file linking, which i dont do anyway. all i want is a stable 3DS export/import feature between the 2 as per normal.

the upgrade from viz 3 to 4 is only about £400, compaired to £1,195 to max 6 (which isn't really a bad deal)

does she speaketh the truth, have anyone here suffered problems, or are autodesk blagging me again?

VIZ 4 doesn't read DWG 2004 files.

3ds max 6 does, but it doesn't have two-way file linking (it's import only).

1 - you can export from ADT2004/Acad2004 as an 2000/2000i/2002-DWG which VIZ will read.

2 - you can still export as a 3ds-file, but that usually can give normal-flipping problems. If you make all materials 2-sided or render with force 2-sided, it should make much problems.

So technically you can still use VIZ4 with Acad2004, although it works better with VIZ Render (included with ADT2004) or 3ds max 6 (which is awesome, but might be too expensive, like you said).
