Fëanor
Hi everyone! I'm trying to do some conceptual renders in vray using transparencies, but have a lot of artifacts, like you can see in the image here. The method I use is to set the refraction IOR to 1, and I've tried increasing the subdivs, teh max depth, I've tried with affect alpha and shadows on and off... and anyway I try it I get that ugly noise in the parts where two objects touch each other. Using the default scanline in max doesn't have those problems, so maybe I'm setting anything wrong? thanks a lot, and excuse my broken english. Fëanor
Sure, here it is... you never encountered that problem? (it a rar renamed to zip, the forum doesn't allow rars for some reason)
shaneis
It could be that your camera's near-clip is set too low. Try adjusting that or moving the offending surfaces apart slightly.
BrianKitts
It could be that your camera's near-clip is set too low. Try adjusting that or moving the offending surfaces apart slightly. I would second the movement to split the edges. Basically what you are getting is the same problem that causes co-planer faces to render black. Since your objects are touching the edges occupy exactly the same location and the renderer can't figure out which object to display. This isn't a problem with opaque objects, but when you add the transparency then you can see every edge. A mere 1/8" spacing or so on your objects would solve the problem.
