liron
Hi, I've just seen Christopher Nichols' Gnomonology tutorial about speed VS quality with vray, and tried to implement his technique. For some reason when I up the QMC Max Subdiv amount to aprox. 16, my computer will just turn itself off (!?) after starting to render. I have a fairly new Intel dual core with 2 Gigs of RAM, which shouldn't make any problems (it should, according to Nichols, eat this with no salt). I've tried lowering bucket size and upping vray's memory use, but to no result - the computer keeps shutting down after some rendering has been done. Has anyone experienced the same problem? Do you know what could be wrong? Please help! Thanks a million Edited June 11, 2008 by liron

I even went to use 32 as my QMC max subd. But I do realized that sometimes if the 3d model is not done properly it sometimes contributes to the problem. At least thats what I encounter in the past. liron
Yes, I thought this was weird myself, as the machine should cut through this kind of render like butter... Still, the scene is very very basic: a floor some teapots and a wall (similar to the lineup in Nichols' video). I hope someone out here can give me an answer... IHAB
state your pc configuration, I think you have an MB failure or maybe a power supply problem, nothing with Christopher Nichols !!
Christopher Nichols
I would be shocked if I was responsible for hardware failure in my tutorial...

Are you talking about the samples or the subdivs multiplier? I never use more than 2. Better to tweak each object or use the noise threshold. But then again, this shouldnt turn off your computer
FlytE
computers turning off suddenly sounds a little bit like an overheating issue with your processor. Theres an emergency shut off mechanism that will shut it down if it goes above a certain temperature.... you might need a new heatsink or better cooling?! Try running a program like speedfan when you do your render http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/SpeedFan-Download-4103.html
