mskin
Im on a budget - less than 500. Im not going to make it, but im going to be close. Can you guys look at this and tell me if im missing anything? All items off of newegg.com. could have got some things cheaper elsewhere, but im saving on shipping from using one company. anyway, here is where im at. salvaged from old system.... dvd writer dvd reader 120g ide hard drive keyboard, mouse, monitor. existing graphics card (pci x) Purchased Items: processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor motherbord : ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA (because of legacy supprort) ram: Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) hard drive: Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500AAJS 250GB case : Undecided, help appreciated on this one. im at $482. Here are my questions. am i missing anything? i recently blew the motherboard out of a AMD athlon 64 3500 machine. How significant will the gains be in this new system. my goal is to stay within budget by reusing as much as possible while maintaining the ability to upgrade as i am able. This motherboard appears to fit the bill. Im not a pro at this and am a bit concerned that the processor won't work on the board (1333 FSB), it looks to me like it does.... but i've over looked things before. The Hard drive is cheap and im worried about that, id love to hear opinions - but keep in mind that this one item could blow my budget. Thanks in advance guys (and gals). mskin
one last thing. I could and would upgrade to the 6600 quad for about $80. Am i stupid not to? I know it would help the rendering, but how would it effect everyday ussage? I have xp64 at work, but was thinking of sticking with xppro at home due to lack of driver support etc... Any objections to that idea? again - thanks. and lastly... power supply requirements?
shaneis
If you can stretch the budget, get the 6600. Effect on every day usage - better multi-tasking, though if you intend on overclocking the 6750 has had great results. Power supply, get a case that has a few big fans and can supply at least 500W, +650W would be better.
