when DBR doesn't help much

hi guys,

 

i have a scene, a restaurant with mid-level of detail but a lot of glass, metal and mirrors :( this kills the rendering speed and increased memory usage by multiple times, and i've tried to optimize the 3d meshes as much as possible. i've used the mental ray 'placeholder obejcts' options and the 'mental ray map manager'. i've even tried the 'render pass' and lastly, DBR (distributed bucket rendering).

 

one of the issues is that my office OS is using the XP 32bit version which seriously limits the memory. when i tried to render a 320 x 240 using DBR with 3 pcs as slaves,my mental ray often shut down showing the low memory errors. what other options can i try?

 

the situation is different when i render them on the 64bit XP, managed to render a full scene without render passes. but my office is using the 32bit
