JonM
Hello all I am doing a visualization for an art installation, and its coming out ok except for the splotchiness on the walls. I will be doing an animation of this so I want to figure out how to smooth out the walls without affecting the calculation time of the IR map. res 1280x720 Adaptive rQMC sampler - default (1/4) IR map - medium animation preset, hemisub - 60, intrepsamples - 24 Light cache - 1000, screen, samplesize .01 rQMC sampler: adaptive amount - .8 Noise Thres- .01 Min Samples - 10 Global subd - 2 this took a bit over 30 mins on my Athlon 64 X2 5400+ 2GB DDR2 Any ideas on how to improve these settings so the image will be smoother and the rendering time will not increase too much? If I am to do this new animation IRmap method on RC5, then I can't have a hight render time on the IR map
alias_marks
right off the gun I would say up your interp. samples and down your hemi samples for the Irradiance map...maybe like 50 and 40 respectively. I've seen this suggested by Brian at ATAS a lot and it seems to work out well. Mike

JonM
Yup that seemed to help it, without affecting render time really While we are on the topic, I have read and experimented a lot with vray, but I still don't fully understand the relationship between rQMC sampler and IR map/GI solution? perhaps you can give me a quick idea of it? or point me in a direction? Thanks for the help guys!
