marksee
What are you guys using for website hosting/domain names etc. Is this the best way to create an online portfolio - other than these "bulk" portfolio websites that house many many portfolios? I am looking to have a webpage, dedicated to a portfolio - flash based. I am new to the webpage creating domain so I am looking for some suggestions on what you guys have done. Scotty T
I just used Web.com and purchased a domain name through them to keep it simple. It is not very fundamental for placement of objects but with some tweaking I found a way to make it useful. For $10 a month it gets the job done until I can evolve into flash and learn more. Dave Buckley
i'm in the process of making an online portfolio, however it is not flash based, it is just a simple click on each picture to view kind of site, all i have done is create a free webpage (eg, geocities or somthing similar) then once you have set up your free webpage as you want it, go to www.yournamehere.tk and you can make a name for you webpage ending in .tk and that site will simply link the page name to your free webpage, so rather than typing geocities.com/dsfhodfhoahgoahgoahghoahdighqr[ogho[qrhgoqhfqo[wifhgh etc, all you need to send to the company is your .tk page name and when they type it into there browser it will link directly to your free webpage that you have made, bit difficult to explain but hope you get the idea
Crazy Homeless Guy
if you don't know how to create websites i think the easiest solution is to use photoblogging software or sideshow software to automate the creation of your gallery. creating a website might take you a month, but using something like i mentioned above might take you a couple of hours. marksee
Thanks for the reply. I fully intend for this to be an ongoing project. I have been learning flash for the last few weeks and figure this is a good way for me to further develop these skills. I suppose the biggest question was that if I have a movie to post - or a few - these are obviously not small files. I am looking for a good - cheap - place to upload these for web use. Obviously this is only for portfolio stuff and not a professional service page - so I don't have a ton of money to spend to keep this around just for pleasure. brianzajac
This used to be a huge problem in the online community. But, thanks to YouTube, there are ways to post animations for free. For us, we use BrightCove (http://admin.brightcove.com/console/). This system tends to show off videos in better quality than YouTube and organizes things much better. marksee
Brightcove huh... thats interesting - and perhaps a bit more professional then referring visitors to youtube (nothing at all against youtube) Tell me, do you have the free or pay account. Only reason I ask is the free account mentions "with ads." I was just wondering what these were like.
Jeff Mottle
Brightcove huh... thats interesting - and perhaps a bit more professional then referring visitors to youtube (nothing at all against youtube) Tell me, do you have the free or pay account. Only reason I ask is the free account mentions "with ads." I was just wondering what these were like. The free account, from what I read, only inserts ads if you get 1000 hits to the video per month. They don't mention the type of ads that are served (the companies), but I think they are pre-roll ads. I've called Brightcove about the professional version for a project I'm working on, but from what I've read in a few forums the cost starts at around $20K per year. I was playing around with the free version and the interface is pretty slick.
