Nic H
1. autoback 2. merge into new file 3. .......nothing you can do
clauco
Try merging the entire scene in a new one as Nicnic said. If that doesn´t work you should try merging object by object to a new scene until you find the object which is making the file to crash. Good luck! Crazy Homeless Guy
this is a good time to reiterate the why you should do a save as, and the increment the file 01, 02 ,03, etc.. learning the hard way is a bitch. that being said, before you do anymore work, check your autoback directory, and see if there is a version in there that is healthy. i keep a shortcut to my autoback directory specifically for this reason. hard drive space is cheap. really cheap when compared to the number of hours that are potentially lost when a file corrupts. FlyinHawaiian
We've got some proprietary scripts at Focus360 that intelligently iterate your saves, but script spot also seems to have some good options. I haven't personally tested this one, but it looks very promising: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/backup-save-script Good luck with your crashed file! We've all been there and feel your pain. The moral of the story is to not let yourself get burned again. Back it up! Aloha, Joel
Crazy Homeless Guy
also, i had a file that kept crashing today. i couldn't tell why it was crashing, but remembered that i had the site set as a xref scene. i simply renamed the xref'd scene to something else, and the file opened without a problem. i then relinked the scene, and everything was a-okay. i am not saying that is your problem, but just thought i would mention it on the slim chance that it was. The moral of the story is to not let yourself get burned again. Back it up! Aloha, Joel We use this script here at work and it's SAVED our as*es more times than I can count. You have to be VERY dilligent about cleaning out the backup subfolder, as it creates a backup quite frequently (100+ / day?) and if your MAX file is sizeable, you can quickly eat up GB of server space. -Michael
maumau
mike, how do you specify the folder where the backup files will be saved? i find the script looking for the folder, but i haven't been able to modify it.

A.Mitov
I have also recovered a corrupted file just by trying to open it again and again. Some times it takes up to 20 opens. That worked for me while doing a recent project.
jintu
Try to copy the file then paste to the same directory.
