Polycarbonate sheets

Hello everyone

I was looking lately at the Laban Dance centre by Herzog and De Meuron and i was really excited by the properties of polycarbonate sheets as a cladding material. Although i did attempt to create a material that would much its aesthetic effects i didnt make it. I was wondering if any of you has any recommendation on how to create this material. I ve posted a picture for those who are not familiar with the polycarbonate sheets.

I had a project a few years ago that used the GE Twinwall polycarb sheets. This is the result of simulating the material.

 

The polycarb material is just an opacity map with

2 levels of grey tiled planar mapped on the y axis

damn, ive been trying to figure this one out for a while. the semi transparent objects are really tough to do. i havent found a way yet. but let me know if u do!!

i ve used a standard material and a striped jpeg as a bump map set to 30%

Specular color: vertex color

Specular level: vertex color

Opacity 90

Spec level 50

 

Any suggestions?comments?
