Rendermedia
Hi I have imported a DWG file of a Z model of a town in the UK There are hundreds of models in there such as chimney pots etc, The graphics card is having a problem manoeuvring around, What is the best way of optimising this scene? I want to start attaching objects together so that there are a fewer of them, when I do this, models start duplicating all over the screen, to get round this I have to select a series of models and turn them to editable meshes, however I cannot turn to editable meshes those models that are in layers the option is hidden when right clicking is there a better way to attach models that sit in layers, Kind Regards Mark
gfa2
I'm not sure I totally follow what you are doing here, but you might try selecting a couple objects that you want to attach and then hit 'Alt+Q' to isolate them. Then you can work on them without the rest of the scene slowing your computer down.
Rendermedia
Hi Gary thanks for gettign back My scene is made up of approx 3 - 4k objects, so the viewport slows down a bit, I am tryign to attach objects together, so instead of 500 chimney pots objects, just 1 will do so I want to attach them into one object, which is a simple task, however the 500 or so objects appear to be made up of several instances and it will not allow me to rightclick around a region and selct convert to editable mesh (to kill the instance) before attaching them into one object any ideas? Kind Regards
Matt Clementson
Try this; 1) Select all 500 chimney pots. 2) Right click in the modifier stack and make them unique. 3) Now deselect all but one and attempt your attaching together. Personally I'd be trying to keep all the separate objects rather than joining them altogether but I guess that's a personal preference.
Rendermedia
Hi Matt, cheers for that, in the end I created a sphere and attached that to all the chimney pots, and it broke the instance I see what you mean about keeping them separate it makes great sence but I have to get a 2 minute animation out for thursday and this week is shortcut city, Cheers Matt, kind Regards Mark
ajvbochove
Select all you want and use the COLLAPSE from the utility panel. You've got diferent options there.
