Hi all

I'm trying to get a good caesar stone texture happening complete with the glint in some areas etc.......for those who don't know or if it's called something different in other countries, caesar stone is a man made granite like material made from crushed quartz (or so I'm told).

I'm using max and vray so if anyone has any ideas they would be much appreciated.

thanks

Try using a glow map in which only the glittering parts of the texture are active, along with a reflection map using the same trick I.E partially active.

You can use the original Caesarstone image to produce both this maps in photoshop.

Sort of agree with Tamir, though I wouldn't use "glow", but instead use a combination of colour/transparency/translucency maps. If you're going to have the camera up close, a specular map would also help. Not sure of the Max/ V-Ray equivalent, but in Maya, I'd be using a layered shader (not layered texture) so you could have more control over each map. To be really accurate, you'd need to plug the reflecting/ refracting maps into the facing angle of the camera/ light source.

Note too, that caesar stone doesn't have to be granite - you can choose from a range of "grits", or even supply your own.

thanks guys

I solved the problem using a scatter compound object and a vray light material which gave me great control over the glint but of course added to the poly count ever so slightly. I will still try for a material solution though and if I'm able to I will post the result.

thanks again
