chiquito
Hi, has any one tested Vray against Fryrender? I saw same publicity on fry, but no actual comparison? anyone knows of any? thanks, martin
Devin Johnston
I'd say the comparison would be similar to Vray Vs Maxwell because the two technologies are virtually the same.
DavidR
Yeah, I thought Evermotion's Fryrender/mental ray comparison kind of ridiculous; Fry really needs to be compared to Maxwell.

Ragazzaccio
I'm a Vray user and I have been messing with Fryrender lately. To be honest it has a pretty interesting workflow and some really cool features in which I was pretty intrigued by. You can do things like adjust color mapping and post processing within the image while it's being rendered. I can see this being a huge time saver for those who don't want to take the time to keep rendering images to achieve a specific look. Although Fry has some cool features, I honestly do feel that in many areas it still needs a lot of work. There isn't really much room for tweaking on a physical level like in Vray. Mostly everything is done with sliders within your UI. The downside was that I feel this took away a lot of the artistic aspects of rendering. As for materials, Vray definitely has the better material system. I say this because materials are one of my favorite parts or rendering to work with. I think Fry is a pretty cool renderer and got some pretty decent results with it, but in all honesty after a few hours I got a little bored with its workflow. One thing I can say is that it's very intuitive and pretty easy for someone to grasp who is relatively new to rendering. Vray is the architectural renderer's choice because of it's efficiency, optimization, and flexibility, but Fry may suit you better. From my understanding Random Control is a relatively young company so maybe in a few years they will have a more well rounded product. Try them both out and see what you feel the most comfortable working in. Edited December 7, 2010 by Ragazzaccio
