Demolition Sequence

hi, a client has asked me to work on an interesting animation project for a new build, and part of this animation he wants me to show the old building being demolished.

I'm currently exploring ideas to tackle this, but the emphasis needs to be simple, fast to implement, yet effective.

I use max as my modeling package, any ideas on good ways of doing this?

I'm guessing some form of particle system perhaps? or rigid body type thingy?

Your comments would be appreciated.

Cheers

Well, at the moment I'm thinking of just using simple bomb modifier, as i think that might be enough, but I'm at a loss as to stop the fragments falling through the ground plane, as I'd like the building blocks to explode, but then come to rest on the ground. I assume some form of collision type thing?

Is this a job for reactor, I've tinkered with this a little in the past, but I must confess to completely forgetting how I did it in the past.

Any ideas? cheers

as a side note, have you discussed with your client exactly what they mean by the building being demolished? if i were marketing a new project, the last thing i would want is an implication that the building was being destroyed by a bomb or missle. if i had to guess, i would invision more of an implosion like an implosive profesional would do, or, not as elegant, but a dismantle in the method a wrecking ball might do.

Sure, I appreciate what you are saying about making a building looking blown up with bombs etc!!

I know exactly what my client wants, he's after a traditional demolition effect. I was merely talking about using the bomb modifier as way to try and simulate the collapsing and imploding characteristics simply which it seems it would do o.k. from my quick prototypes.

More info on how the deflector planes work would be very much appreciated though.

Cheers
