cullen
Hello all, I am doing my first Master Plan/Site Plan and have a couple texture questions. I have always struggled with a realistic grass so I usually fix it in photoshop. unfortunately I need to take about 15 views and will not have time to "doctor" the image. Grass: I would like the grass to appear as if it was mowed 2 different directions. (like a baseball field) I have used displacement in the past for due to the size and time constraints I don't have that as an option. Any suggestions? Water: The next texture I am trying to figure out is water. This will be my first time to ever render a pond so I don't even know where to start with this. My overall goal is not to achieve a "photo realistic" rendering but more of a "pixar-ish" style. It will be used for a Schematic Presentation. Thanks for the help, crw
Rendermedia
Hi For grass, I would opt for a nice looking texture, simply duplicate the layer in Photoshop and create your own lawnmower lanes quick and easy, for bump map use a small noise map set to Fresnel, its an old trick I use, and you will be surprised just how close you can get to the view without it showing up to bad, For water, If you are using max standard renderer, I would use a raytrace reflection with some animated noise on it if it’s a sequence, Brazil, use Glass material, or Advanced material and set to translucent, remember to turn off receive shadows & cast shadows on the water object Again a little noise bump V-Ray, don’t know never used it, but judging by the quality of some of the renders an excellent way to go. cullen
Thanks for your reply Mark. Unfortunately I won't have the time to do photoshop touchup due to the amount of views needed. I have using V-Ray as my render engine. Thank you for the tip on the noise map. I'll definitely give that a shot. Unfortunately I'm still cleaning up the AutoCAD file. It's in pretty bad shape. thanks, crw
Rendermedia
Hi Cullen With regards to Photoshop I meant for you to create the texture and then apply that to the lawn, I think an imgage map should work well for you as opposed to real grass Kind Regards Mark
cullen
Thanks for the clarification. I will try that. I've had a problem finding a grass that will tile nicely thought. Thanks, crw
mfured20
i saw this site earlier for doing the grass, im not sure if it will work for the cross-hatching you are looking for, but it might help - http://www.cgarchitect.com/vb/11207-vray-displacement-grass.html also, when it comes to water, i tend to just kinda create a glass material with a little color to it, and i add a noise filter to the bump channel. this works pretty well, as long as there are no fountains or anything to disrupt the surface. good luck!
