YOHKOH
Hi there, was wondering if anyone could give an opinion on the following. We are getting some shiny new machines at work and are wondering about the graphics cards. We want to get some of the best while we are in the mood for spending. The PC guy at the office has suggested the following "the NVidia Quadro are the cards aimed at professional use, but reading on the forums, some suggest that the GTX8800 card performs best with 3ds Max, and this is more of a high end gaming card (also quite a bit cheaper than the Quadro)" We are running Max 9 with Vray as well as adobe suite. Thanks in advance.
AJLynn
An 8800 card is actually going to outperform most Quadros in Max9. I've got an 8800GTS at work and it gives me no complaints even with high poly scenes.
Stephen Thomas
An 8800 card is actually going to outperform most Quadros in Max9. I've got an 8800GTS at work and it gives me no complaints even with high poly scenes. The 320Mb 8800GTS OC2 edition from BFG Tech has just topped 3d World magazines round up of consumer level graphics cards. Greater price / performance relationship than the better spec'ed nvidia cards. I have this card at home, it retails for about £200, and as well as handling 3ds max like a dream it plays a mean game of GRAW 2 as well!
YOHKOH
Thnaks for the advice. Looks like were going for a 1gb version of the 8800, woo hoo!
lambros
i have a 8800gts 640MB, works great, but mind though that the extra memory is beneficial for texture-heavy scenes or games. A 320MB card would cost less that half of the 1GB model. Just check that the cores run at the same speed
