sstamfb
Hi all, i'm doing an animation in mental ray and i would like to ask,if it is necessary for every frame to be calculated the final gather. By this way the procedure needs a lot of time. is there any way, final gather, to be calculated only once?
Jennifer
Yes. You can Save the Final Gather, and then Freeze it for re-use without recalculation. See my documents at: http://www.max3ds.com/Download/mental_ray_101.pdf http://www.max3ds.com/Download/mental_ray_102.pdf The 101 document covers the Final Gather tools. You cannot use this method if you animate objects or lighting during your animation, as that would change the FG solution. Good luck!

Jennifer
Thanks, I appreciate that. The site http://www.max3ds.com is the site for the Chicago area Autodesk Animation User's Group, and I post those in the Forums under Meeting demo Notes. I'l update the 102 document for the new lights in max once that is released, and get something on GI and the A&D materials as soon as I have a chance. Have a fun day!
