sanmb
Is it possible in rhino, I want to off the shadow cast of the specific object. For example, If I model a sphere for the sky background the shadows of the model drops on the sky. I want to give light source effect to the object. For example, ceiling lights like we do in max. Please tell if anybody knows. Regards, Sanjay.

vkirchner
Sanjay, I am not sure I understand exactly what you want to do because you mentioned 3DMax lights which I have not used before. But I will try to help because you say that it is urgent. Using the default Rhinorender, there is an automatic light placed in the upper left corner of the screen. You will automatically turn this off when you place your own light from the render submenu. What I tell you about the Rhinorender is also true for the Treefrog renderer, except for the fact that not all lights are supported by the free Treefrog renderer. I know that the spotlight is the most used light with the Treefrog renderer. As for creating a shadow on the background, I have done this by using a planar surface behind the object, placing my background texture image on the planar surface. This works well, but under the render submenu, properties, rhinorender option, you must also have shadows selected in the check box. If you are using Flamingo or another renderer, please let us know so we can discuss the options within those specific programs. sanmb
Hi Kippu, Thanx, I am using rhino renderer. I would like to know which render engine is best for rhino. Regards, Sanjay.
broozee
Hi Sanmb, The Rhino renderer is very basic. I don't think it will allow to turn off shadow casting for objects. You would need to install a render plug-in like Flamingo, Air, V-Ray, Brazil etc. that offer those controls. Regards, Bill
vkirchner
Bill, I do not believe that is a correct statement. I opened up Rhino, selected the Rhinorender as my current render engine. When I open the render>properties panel, I have the following options to turn on or off shadows by the check box.
broozee
I was meaning, by the individual object. Not the entire scene. For example, with Flamingo loaded, you could select an object, open the properties dialog, and turn off shadows for just the one object. What version of Rhino are you using? By the looks of your screen shot, version 3. Regards, Bill
