sstamfb
Hi all, i'm doing an animation which includes 5.000 rpc trees. The preparation of the rpc needs a lot of time. Does anyone know if it is necessary the preparation before every frame rendering? Can i avoid this preparation?
ITryMyBest
As far as I know, there is no way around this except to use actual 3D trees.
chiquito
I doubt they are 5k different rpc's. so you could reference this ones. so you just twaek the no replicants.
Stephen Thomas
I doubt they are 5k different rpc's. so you could reference this ones. so you just twaek the no replicants. It will still have to check the viewing angle for each instance though, so won't save any time.
kippu
5000 trees huh ...wont it be better using geomentry trees or opacity bitmaps?
sstamfb
hi Thanks all of you for your advice. I think it is very complicated: a) If i put model trees i will have to face hardware problems during the modelling and during the rendering. 5000 trees will overload the model b) on the other hand if i put opacity bitmaps,i will have to rotate a great number of trees for every different scene I tried to add some extra trees (5500), then during the preparation a message appeared saying "bitmap error 4805 tree, memory is not enough etc....." (the computer has 2gb ram) . After this, i load the scene to other computer with 3gb ram, but the same problem again appereared " bitmap error 4900......" I believe that this is not hardware problem, but rpcs face difficulties when somebody uses more than 4000 rpcs. Perhaps this happens because of the bitmap's size (high resolution bitmaps) Do you suggest to put 2 gb ram more (total 4gb ram) or this will not help? kippu
if you use forest pro and opacity maps ... you wont have to rotate your maps.. forest pro will take care of it
Bugga_Guy
Yikes! 5000. I don't think it is possible, since you cannot instance or proxy RPC's. My only suggestion is to use "billboard" on the RPC menu for all the trees. If that does not work you will most likely have to use a model/opacity texture map. sstamfb
billboard did wonders for my scene, thanks a lot. the only poblem was the memory that was needed. First frame needed 800 mb, and when the 150th was rendered it needed 1500 mb. Forest pro will give the solution for so many trees......
ipxstudios
If you are using V-ray this is a great program for populating large landscapes with proxies. http://www.gugila.com/
andreg
you could always use 3d trees as v-ray proxies.... you can render billions of polys that way. Just use 4 or 5 different models and proxy trhe rest
